I'm addicted

I just received my second round of edits and apparently I suffer from an addiction. I am addicted to the words "was" and "that". It's true. My name is Marie Rose Dufour (wait!?;)) and I am an addict. I used my addiction in a terrible way in Fated Mates. Between the two words, I used them over SIX HUNDRED times. Wow!!!  Mind you there are others both these two seems to be my main "stuff"! In order to try and purge my system of these words, I spent all day yesterday removing all but nineteen "thats". I am only a quarter of the way of eradicating most of the "was" because it takes a lot longer rewriting the sentences to get rid of it. I was editing's bitch yesterday.

On a personal note, I didn't get the job in the district that I live in. I'm not really upset by this because they are notorious for not hiring teachers at top step. I knew this thirteen years ago when I first interviewed with them and they took someone on second step opposed to my sixth at the time. I was actually told this by the person calling me with my rejection phone call. Even though I knew this was how they operated, I decided to take a chance this time. Guess what? Not one of the teachers they hired has more than seven years experience. In these tough economic times, I can understand they want to save money anyway they can but really shouldn't there be a disclaimer like If more than ten years experience, you need not apply! Just asking.

Peace out,
MRD

  1. Welcome to the world of writing. It took me a handful of books before I got the hang of not using "that" and "was" so much. I love using both words.

Sorry about the job. I don't understand this. Don't they want the best for our children? Sorry to hear you didn't get the job. I'm sure it would've been an easier commute.

  2. I'm a dear close friend of was and that too. But they're just so nice and personable, I want to splash them all over the place.

  3. Ay-ay! 'Was'....my bad, too.

And sorry about the job, but I always believe one missed opportunity makes way for an even better one.

    Hugs!

  4. Hi Marie,

I just finished chapter two of my first round of edits and am trying to not have a panic attack! I'm not even going to think about how many times WAS is in there, because I'm a WAS junkie as well!

About the job, all I can say is it's their loss. They obviously don't deserve you!

  5. Hi Marie,

Sorry to hear about the job. :( Hopefully something wonderful will just drop into your lap.

I'm in the same editing hell with the same "Was" word. I'm over halfway done editing, but I want to scream. How could I use that word so much? Oh ya, it's a fabulous word!! I guess I'm going to have to find another catch word so I can go through this editing hell again that I love so much. LOL Take care, Sweetie.
